⚠ READ THIS BEFORE YOU COMPARE TWO SENATORS

These totals are not election cycles. They are the sum of every filing in the state's export, and senators have between two and six years of filings depending on how long they have served.

One senator's $606,558 covers six years. Another's $186,056 covers two. Sorting those by raw total would rank time served, not fundraising.

That is why this page defaults to per-year, and why every card shows its own year span. The raw total is still there — read it next to the years, never alone.

The label is a pure function of the number. Party is not an input — Nebraska's Legislature is officially nonpartisan. A label describes a funding mix. It is not an accusation, and PAC money is legal and disclosed. The cut lines are 40% and 60%, published in advance on the methodology page.

“By total” is included because you will want it — but it sorts longer-serving senators to the top. Per-year is the fairer comparison.

District 41Fred Meyer
No campaign committee on file. This is not $0 — it is a different fact. Sen. Fred Meyer of St. Paul has NO campaign finance record because he has never run for this seat. He was appointed to District 41 twice - in 2023 after Tom Briese resigned to become state treasurer, and again on 2026-01-14 after Sen. Dan McKeon resigned. He did not run to retain the seat in 2024. He holds it until a special election in November 2026. The two NADC 'MEYER' candidates are GLEN MEYER - who is the sitting senator for DISTRICT 17, a different person on this same roster - and JENNIFER MEYER. Matching Fred to Glen would have attributed one sitting senator's money to another. This is the single best argument for the never-guess rule in ne_pull.py.

What this page cannot tell you

It does not show a number of donors, and it never will. Nebraska's export mixes itemized contributions with aggregate rows — one filing carries a single $8,474 line reading “TOTAL OF ALL CONTRIBUTIONS UNDER $250.” A row is not a donor. Dollar totals are sound; counting people with this data would not be.

It does not show votes. Money is NADC; votes are the Legislature's own journal. Two sources, never merged, and the votes are not built yet.

It does not tell you why anyone gave, or what anyone expected. It records that money moved, from whom, and when.
